What we collect

When you sign in with Apple, we receive your name (if you choose to share it) and a unique identifier. We do not receive or store your email address unless you explicitly provide it.

Health data

with your permission, nowphoria reads health data from the devices and services you connect. today that includes apple health (which may carry readings from your apple watch, oura, whoop, garmin, fitbit or other devices), and a direct connection to oura. we expect to add more, such as garmin and whoop, and we will only ever read what you allow. the readings we use include heart rate, heart rate variability (hrv), resting heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, temperature, sleep and activity. we also write mindful minutes to apple health after each session. we use this data to show you how your meditation practice relates to your body.

Health data backup

Health backup is off unless you turn it on. If you turn it on, the health readings Nowphoria uses are stored in your private account on Supabase, our backend provider, so your history is kept if you change or lose your phone. Each reading is stored with its time, the device that measured it, and the meditation session it relates to, including the practice type you chose.

Only you can access your backed-up health data. It is protected so that it can be read only by your signed-in account. We never sell your health data, never share it with third parties for their own use, and never use it for advertising or marketing. We do not store health data in iCloud.

You can turn backup off at any time. You can delete all of your backed-up health data from the health screen in the app, or by contacting us. Turning backup off or deleting it does not affect data in Apple Health.

Research

contributing to research is off unless you turn it on, and it is separate from backup. if you turn it on, your readings and meditation sessions may be included in research into the effects of meditation, including research we carry out with partners such as universities and research institutions.

before your data is used this way, your name, account and anything that could identify you is removed, and times are rounded. research partners receive de-identified data under an agreement that they may not attempt to identify you, may not sell it, and may only use it for the agreed research.

you can turn this off at any time and your data stops being included. readings already used in a completed study cannot be withdrawn from it.

What we store

We store your display name, meditation session history (duration, date, the practice type you choose and your optional energy check-in), field notes you choose to share publicly, and your friend connections. This data is stored securely on Supabase (our backend provider).

Location

If you grant location access, your city is displayed on your profile. We do not store precise GPS coordinates or track your location in the background.

Sharing

Field notes marked "share to the field" are visible to other Nowphoria users. Field notes marked "keep private" are only visible to you. You can change visibility or delete any field note at any time.

Third parties

we never sell or rent your personal data, and we never use your health data for advertising. we use a small number of companies to run the app: supabase for data storage, apple for sign-in and notifications, and the device services you choose to connect, such as oura. they handle your data on our behalf, under their own privacy terms. we share data for research only as described in the research section above: de-identified, with your separate permission, and never in a form that identifies you.

Data deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data by contacting us at hello@nowphoria.net.
